I pulled a bullet from a "older" 30-30 round. It appeared to be factory loaded.

Head stamp: W. R. A. CO 30 W.C.F

The powder was extruded short cut but had a hole through it like a bead or macaroni (or Pyrodex muzzleloader pellet). I have never seen (or heard of) this type of power before in a rifle cartridge.

I am not looking for reloading info, just a little about the powder itself.
Thanks all.

Take a gander through Wolf Publications "Propellant Profiles" . You will find quite a few extruded powders with holes in the kernels. Increases the exposed surface to control burning rate.

Big commercial loading companies never, or almost never, use a powder that is sold to reloaders. They develope a powder to suit their purpose and load their ammunition with it. I also read where they continually check the qualities of the powder and use the amount that gives them the pressure and velocity want.
