unrestricted AR

xcr is another one you could look at. The mr1 I used looks nothing like a black rifle just another semi....the fn2000 is another one and hopefully we get the cz bren as well...

Sig green/black special

In .308 there are a couple of non-restricted options that would work:
Norinco M14 copy or Springfield arms M1a
Keltec RFB

Sorry I don't have much experience with this but why are ARs restricted by name? Aren't rifles like the acr, scar and xcr pretty much the same thing in terms of size, firepower and overall scariness?

This thread should be moved to the black-rifle section...

Non-restricted "Black" (& "Red") military-style rifles you can hunt with...

of all the rifle posted and talked about

3 I like
the HK SL8-6 the FN2000 and the VZ-58 but I think it would be hard to put a scope on it
the HK being first

have to be careful in my choice since I am left handed..... what a sickness that is....
any comment on this rifle

I'm confused. I assumed this was in reference to service rifle competition...
What does 'scariest' have to do with your question?

All the rifles pictured are ~$2000 (and up) new, with the exception of the Mini-14,CZ's/CSA's, and the Chinese variant of the M1A (Norinco).

I'm not familiar with the legalities surround the FN FS2000 here, nor it's availability. All the one's I pic'd are "readily" available on the market in Canada.

That's why I said this thread should be moved...

yest it does concern service rifle
I wish to do it this summer
have to choose, you said scariest did not mention this but I thing I know what you meant ..... I am left handed and I wish to choose a model that has a spent case deflector
I shot one recently that did not have this and the casing kept passing a little bit to close for comfort

It was another fellow that asked about scary looking rifles:confused:

I'm left handed and own a Tavor, Swiss Arms, FS2000, M14, SL-8 (had one), and ARs - your best bet is an AR. You don't need a Stag Arms lefty model, and in fact a regular AR is easier to handle and clear stoppages.
As far as non-restricted semi autos that will compete - The SL8 and Swiss Arms will keep up with the AR, but the rest of the pack will be taking a back seat.

As far as the cheapest, best bang for your buck that is non-restricted out of the gate, I'd give the nod to the SL8 (around $1900) with an AR magwell conversion (they are around $200)
You could also try a Robarms XCR (prices seam to be coming down to the $2200 mark for a used one) - but not my recommendation....

The Swiss Arms don't lend themselves to handloading if that is your thing (they really chuck the brass), but will hold their own against an AR on any given day.

The FS2000 needs a new barrel to make it non-restricted - but I believe one of the dealers here can do that right out of the blocks. (having them make one 18.5" out of a Krieger or similar match blank would really make this thing shoot, and would be a very good choice for a lefty. Hmmmmmm, gets me thinking....;)

So far the Tavor hasn't proven accurate enough to stay in the game past 200m, but is another good choice for a lefty if it has the bolt and action switched over to left eject.

I wasn't happy how the SL8 fit me, and so I dumped mine. They are accurate though, and well suited to the game.

M14 and any other .308 - .308 will kick the .223s ass all day every day, but there is more to SR that evens the scales in .223s favour. Increased recoil can be negated by the use of a brake (man your neighbors are going to love you), but the ever present extra cost is there for the 308 (almost double)
The M14 in particular takes some effort to make as accurate as an AR and keep that accuracy consistant.
A 308 AR?w:h:

I like the XCR out of the guns discussed in the earlier post. You can customize it and use 7.63x39, 6.8 SPC, and .223/5.56 ammo. I find mine quite accurate and a pleasure to shoot. The ability to use the 10 round AR mags is nice in a non-restricted too. I think its a nice looking gun too. Available in black, OD green, tan, and pink camo.

If I understood you correctly if the rifle is not restricted you are able to have a 10 round magazine....Just like the bolt gun?
