unrestricted AR

There are no issues with ejection.
Charging handle and safety are ambi.
Mag release is if you stick with the HK mags

Hk sl8-6

when you buy this rifle in Canada it come with a 5 rounds magazine or 10 has the specifications says on the HK website
also if you know the rifling twist would like to know....

"...why are ARs restricted by name?..." Because Ron Basford, the Liberal Justice Minister back in the late 70's, saw them being easily converted to FA in movies and on TV. The rifle being black with a pistol grip and 20 round mag scared him too.
"...ejects the casing in a way that it wont hit my face?..." They won't come anywhere near your face. Empties are thrown out a long way from your head. Ejection is, shall we say, positive. Some guys complain about how far an AR throws the empties. 20 feet isn't unusual. Never had any problems with any semi-auto battle rifle, copy of one or MG, shooting left handed.

of all the rifle posted and talked about

3 I like
the HK SL8-6 the FN2000 and the VZ-58 but I think it would be hard to put a scope on it
the HK being first

have to be careful in my choice since I am left handed..... what a sickness that is....
any comment on this rifle

Canuck,

I own both the SL8 and the FS2000. They are completely different in that the SL8 would be used more from the prone position (at least I do - it's pretty heavy at the front end - especially with the integrated bipod I have mounted on it). The FS2000 is more of a "on the run" type piece - similar to the AR in that respect - but a whole lot shorter as it is Bull Pup.

The triggers are not the same either - I could go on, but that's my take on these two rifles.

If you have specific questions, just PM me and I'll try and help you.

Mine came with 1 - 5 round mag, a tool, a manual and that's it. Everything else is "extra" - and when I say "extra" I mean really "extra". The rifling twist in my manual says 178mm righthand. I have found it posted elsewhere that it's a right hand twist of 1 turn in 7"

Hope this helps you out!

will look more closely at the FS2000
and then the big decision.....

Oh yeah, and depending on barrel length you want, it could cost $1000 to $1500 more for the FS2000.

That may have an impact on your decision too ;) (although there have been quite a few SL8's on the EE lately - the FS...not so much)

good point there
I guess I will have to sell my TRG22
we will see
will be doing SR this summer and if I like it has I think I will then I will shoot with the rifle I like no other.....

My AR180b is pretty close to an AR15 and it's unrestricted. It's a lot of fun.

I'll be out at Calgary service rifle matches this year and I might park my AR and give this one a shot. Pun intended. Yuck yuck yuck. :p

I'm confused. I assumed this was in reference to service rifle competition...
What does 'scariest' have to do with your question?

Sorry for the slow reply.
I was referring to how when a rifle is restricted by name, many on this board point to the basis on how threatening the gun appears. I don't really care too much how tacticool it looks, just that I was wondering why it would be restricted by name when there are other rifles that are nearly the same, just of different design, that are unrestricted.

robertson XCR

after some study on all the different rifle mentioned I notice that the picatinny on the Robertson XCR goes all the way back
did not take a good look before because looking at the picture I though that the picatinny did not and would be hard to mount a scope
Was stuck on the HK SL8 as my final choice but will make further study on the robertson
any comment on this rifle would be help me on this search

Sorry I don't have much experience with this but why are ARs restricted by name? Aren't rifles like the acr, scar and xcr pretty much the same thing in terms of size, firepower and overall scariness?

Ar's are restricted by name because we were lucky enough for them not to go prohib. The rifles in the bolded section were designed after the firearms act came out, and no OIC has since been created naming them as prohibited.

Non-restricted "Black" (& "Red") military-style rifles you can hunt with...

nice pics... though it just brings it out to our faces once more that canadian gun laws truly make no sense at all... very littly difference between many of what is shown compared to my regular (amd un-modded) AR 15.... i wish they would let me go varmint hunting with mine.. instead of spending thousands of $$ to get an unrestricted one... not that it matters because one day some genius pencil pusher will decide to move one or to to the red zone anyhow...you will be left to pray that they dont make them restricted..or worse...
