Can anyone tell me what is the best unrestricted semi-auto rifle that is accurate enough for coyotes, gophers, and other small critters, yet light enough for a youth to use, at the very least from a bi-pod? I am thinking around $2000. I travel to the states quite a bit to hunt varmints, and may buy a restricted one just for use south of the border, as long as I can do that in states it's legasl for. Has anyone done this? I think a buddy has brought his handgun down to hunt mule deer in Montana, so it must be okay providing you have all the ATF paperwork done. Any advice here?

Thanks!

Get in line for an AR-180B. Spend the remaining $1,000 or so on decent optics, accessories, and your hunting trip(s). ;)

Modified 180b or an SL8. If you go the SL8 route, you won't have much cash left for optics or a bipod...
If you go the 180b route, get the quad rail forearm (makes mounting a bipod easy, same with tactical lights and so on), Stormwerkz rail for mounting optics, and the Stormwerks adaptor for allowing the AR stock of your liking. You will still have some money left over for optics and a bipod (still not alot though). The M96 might be hard to swing on your budget.

If the semi auto part of the equation isnt necessary, for a $2k budget, I would get a good bolt action rifle with good optics.

Here is mine somewhat done up ....Armedsask puts mine to SHAME

I put on a sliding stock from ace and I have a rail for the top end from stormwerks. My next change is going to be the forestock.

Here's a couple of my 180B. Since these pics I changed to an ACE skeleton folder and changed the the optics. Next week my MWI forearm gets in and will be doing the rig in digital camo.

I don't own either, but I would say the 180B of the SL8. If the XCR was out and proven, I would go that way.
