Here are pics of my CZ vz.38 that I bought a few years back. What's unusual is that it has a manual safety on the left receiver. It also has no commercial nor military proof or acceptance marks.

Some day I will have one of these, they are very collectable in Czech Republic. i foolishly sold mine years ago. Wish I knew more about them. Does anyone have any period pics of them in use? Thanks for showing!
P.s.... Is it not a Bulgarian contract as it has the safety lever?

I don't think its a Bulgarian CZ vz.38. Ceska Zbrojovka apparently sold some to the Bulgarian police in Sofia but those are reported stamped with a 'B' prefix before the serial number with a serial range B 291000 - B 291999, as well as being commercially proofed.

Matching serial numbers are stamped on the left front part of the slide and just below on the receiver with ČESKÁ ZBROJOVKA AKC. SPOL. V PRAZE on the left slide. Mine has matching serial numbers but no 'B' prefix, is 241### and has no proofs.

I have also read that a very small number were sold to the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.

There is very little known about these pistols - one site labels the version with the manual safety a EZ vzor 37: http://www.panchogun.com/FVWebPhotos/FV-CZ39-Bulgarian-Military-5x100px.jpg

Another site to check out is: http://www.freeexistence.org/vz38.html This site states that there are two trigger types on these pistols: DAO and SA/DAO. It says states "These specimens are very easily distinguished because the surface of the hammer is serrated."

I've posted on Jan Still's Luger Forum to get more info. There's a thread there with a couple like mine. Serial numbers are all very close between the three guns.

BTW: The safety lever has position with letters of 'O' and 'Z'. O means ODJISTENO - Armed, Fire position. Z means ZAJISTENO - Disarmed, Safe.
