Anyone have any info on the knob to the left?

The knob on the right has the traditonal garand cuts on the back.

Both knobs are marked BR with S's on the front, so I'm thinking BM59 lineage.

Was there a receiver for BM59 (or BM62/BM69), milled sufficiently different from a Garand, that required this different pattern?

I've never examined a BM59 receiver, but the rear sight components are considered to be interchangeable with the Garand. I've never seen a windage knob w/o the standard 4 detents that seat in the right receiver "ear". Why not install it and let us know how it works?

It simply rides smoothly on the receiver ear w/o dipping into the recesses for the four detents on the traditional knob. The flat surface of the odd ball is all at the same level as the valleys on the traditional knob. The eight tiny indentations appear to be pressed and the finish looks original. I was thinking that perhaps a spring of some sort worked with the notches to give eight clicks per turn instead of the traditinal four?

Its a NM modified windage knob for use on SA inc M1A receivers and USGI M14 receivers. A small detent and spring was placed in the ear area to allow finer ajustments to the windage.
