I had applied as an individual this year for the moose gun draw. This year I was in Pool A. We recently had no intentions on hunting this year. Low and behold I drew a frickin bull tag. Now rumour has it I cannot transfer cuz I am an individual. My buddy says (any truth?) that I can call the ministry and cancel my tag this year and say I am not going. This should still put me into pool A for next year. Is this true or should I find a way to moose hunt this year? :confused:

If you really can't go... you have nothing to lose by phoning them. Either they will take the tag back and put you back in pool one... or you are pooched. Call em and find out.

your screwed, next yr you will be in pool B( the bad pool), next time leave the box blank when you apply, or fill in 99Z or something, that will ensure you stay in pool A(good one) for the yr you don't plan on hunting....and I don't think you can transfer it either...what an incredible stroke of bad luck

WOW. what sh*t luck to have drawn a tag:rolleyes: Maybe you should reconsider and go hunting:eek: Still lots of time to get ready. If not, I think they will rescind your tag, but I don't know about the pool status?

Well according to the 2006 moose regs, it looks like you're going hunting;)

" Big game in Ontario has traditionally been hunted by groups
of hunters for social, cultural and practical reasons. Ontario’s
moose tag allocation system is designed to allow this
traditional harvest method to continue, and permit the
greatest number of hunters to benefit.
While it makes sense to apply as part of a group if you hunt
in a party, individuals may also apply for a validation tag.
Individual hunters are eligible for a validation tag in the
Random Allocation step of the draw.
Hunting parties who apply as individuals and receive more
validation tags than the party wants are not permitted to
return tags.
