Anyone know anything about these old semi auto 12 gauges?
I have an opportunity to own one of these.
It has a couple hounds engraved on one side and some birds on the other.
Comes with a couple of barrels as well.
One slug barrel.
Any info would be appreciated.
Condition would be fair to good.
Would the action work the same as the Browning Auto 5?
Would it load the same with the chamber open and loading through
the bottom receiver and self close?
Would it also unload the same as the A-5 meaning sliding the bolt back
and cycling the shells through without pushing any buttons and having the
bolt stay open on empty?
I can do photos thru email so pm me if you could help.
It is of the non hump back rounded like a Franchi.
Thanks.

Here's some photos of the Light Twelve Browning Auto 5.
Bought this instead of the Savage 755A.
It is a 2 3/4" chamber only and is nicely light.
History dates it's birth in 1963.
Real content with this purchase and thank you Del.
Just finally received it today and got to fondle it.
One year younger than my wife and better looking too. :p :D :HR:
I was looking for one of these to make into a camp gun and chop
the barrel down and such but this sweetie deserves better than that.
So bought some light trap loads and may take her out next
week and try her out.
Still have a tag to cut and will see how that goes.

They operate similarly to the Browning Auto-V. It won't have the magazine cut-off lever, but that's not a big deal. Don't recall if it will load immediately from the magazine.

One thing to look for, though, and it's a killer. These guns are very prone to cracks developing in the receiver, at both sides of the receiver, going up from the bottom at the front. They start in the holes drilled in the underside of the receiver, in the thin side walls at the front. I guess the slamming action of the barrel being stopped by the magazine cap is too much stress for the receiver. I know this is the case for the aluminum receivers, and I don't know if they made any in steel?

They're nice guns, work well, shoot well, but not nearly as well built as the Browning or Franchi versions. If you don't do a lot of shooting and it's CHEAP, go for it.

I'm not sure as to how to decipher the symbols even though I've posted the meanings here. On the left rear barrel it's marked like this

* * SPECIAL STEEL-12 GAUGE-SHELLS 2 3/4"

Making it a Modified Choke.
A little closer to the receiver are a few other markings.
One is something like a small g laying on it's back and beside that is the letter
D with the flat or back side facing up and beside this is
another * which would indicate a full choke.
Not sure which stars are the ones to follow?
Anyone care to share their knowledge on this?
Birth should be 1963 and it is a Light Twelve.
Regards.
