Well after playing with 180 grainers in the Stevens 200 .308, and getting absolutely nowhere, i loaded some 165 grain Hornady sst's. Best load so far was with 52 grains of H414. This is very very compressed and the max load according to Hogdon.

I am hoping to get out shortly and try and the same bullet but use Varget. I bet accuracy will be very good.

Jerry, all manuals have me around 2700 fps i believe. Didn't have my chrony as i don't bother to use it when its above 25 degrees out and it was 33 today. 45 grains of Varget was also pretty good but groups weren't as tight. Could have been me though. I don't shoot well in sweltering heat. Definitley not the best conditions to be load experimenting but when your a family man you take what you can get!!

I am in the same boat. need to sneak out at lunch times to get any shooting done. Switch primers, change powders, its all part of the fun.
If you find something that works for you, have at it. I am sure the game will not care if the bullet lands 1/8" of an inch this way or that.
