looking for someone who carrys replacment barrels for the maverick 88 or mossberg 500 12ga, on the hunt for a shorty 18.5 12ga barrel for one.

is there anyone making or is it even possible to get the magtube extended?

It's a Maverick, for the cost of a new barrel you could buy another Maverick.

Just cut the barrel down to 18.5" and be done with it.

You can't extend the magtube, it would need to be replaced by a longer one.

18.5" isn't considered shorty either....
If you have such a hard on for a shorty Dominion Arms makes cheap short shotguns, Norinco ones, you could find one for a deal (if they aren't marked up) in the EE.
These gents got the knowledge, take it, run with it, try not to trip and fall and impale yourself on it.
Enjoy.
Keep shootin.

You have a couple options. Spare Mossberg 500 barrels with a plain 18.5bbl w/ bead were less than $100 when I last looked at them, but that was some years ago. Your best bet may be to wait until an old fixed full choke barrel comes up on the EE and have it cut down. Or sell you current maverick and buy the combo deal with the proceeds.

odd it seems that even getting barrels of any sort or leanth other then the odd rifled slug barrel for the mossberg 500 is nigh impossible in Canada, why would that be? I thought the 500 was a widly used gun and would think the demand for parts would be high.

Magtube extension is pretty hard, you'd have to be a full blown machinist. Easier to change out the tube and get a different barrel, but thats expensive. Cut it down! They run sweet cut down, if you've got some basic shop skills... hacksaw, good flat files, nice square, vice, drill & tap you can do the whole thing at home pretty easy!

Ellwood Epps had TONS of barrels kicking around from those combo guns. Can't find them on their new website but you could try give them a call, should be $100-$125

I'll give them a call, only reason I dont want to cut this barrel on the gun down is because its a rifled slug barrel with rifle sights and the front sights machined as part of the barrel.

yep, otherwise its a sweet gun I'll use it with shot even with the rifled barrel for grouse and rabbits, usely when I see them im right on top of them anyhow.....but I like that I can switch out barrels and the buttstock so easy and would like to have a shorter barral on hand.

Yeah i never should have dumped mine, cyl bore cut down like that... AWESOME fun gun, great to hunt with too. They're so light! The cost of the 590A1 wasn't worth the extra weight... unless a war breaks out haha.
