Upgrading my Rem 338 Lapua [PIC HEAVY]

I have been doing some work to my Remington 700P 338 Lapua Magnum and I thought I would post some of the work I have done.

First thing was to upgrade the optics, I replaced my Millett LRS with a Nightforce NXS 8-32x56 and set it in TPS rings. Then I installed a Badger Tactical Bolt Knob by grinding the bolt down and filing it round (0.313") and threading it (5/16-24 TPI). The final upgrade is a APA Fat Bastard Muzzle Brake. To install the APA Fat Bastard Brake I had a fellow Gun Nutter, coyote, machine the brake (bore out from 7mm to 0.022" over .338" and indexing).

I had it out last evening and everything worked well. The glass is very impressive, tracked great and is very clear. The brake has taken the recoil down to well below a .308 WIN, plus no more debris flying from the downward ports on the old brake. I am very impressed with this brake. The knob is a great addition as well.



1st Test





I am going to make up a few rounds and test this new setup, but it grouped good with some rounds I had kicking around the ammo cabinet. I may also put a level on the scope, I know it made a big difference when using the Millett.

I will post the results after I get to the range.

I was in the same boat as you. I bought a Rem 338 Lapua last year and was excited to shoot it. Before testing it out, I removed the factory muzzle brake, then realized that the factory barrel was super short, so I pulled that as well.

I'm currently waiting for a broughton barrel from Sean at North Shore and I already have a set of TPS rings and a Vortex Viper PST 6x24 waiting to go on it.

My 338 Lapua Improved reamer is shipping later this week from PT&G and I already have the go/no-go gauges. The action has already been sent off and trued-up by Guntech.

Parts are coming together nicely. Just need to pick up a set of dies and a in-house built muzzle brake from ATRS.

I went to the range yesterday and tested out the new setup. Everything worked great! I shot 300, 600, 800, 900 & 1000 meters and had a great day. Thanks to rnbra-shooter for the use of the electric target system he brought. Also, I installed a Flatline Ops 30mm scope level, it works better than the Vortex I used on my Millett. Enjoy the pictures!

Upper right round was the first shot, center shot was the second (after corrections) and the larger dot is the final shot. I was out of ammo so I couldn't get a 3 round group.
