Ok so I'm getting my ass in gear and finally sending y rpal upgrade in.. 2 questions

First is, is it a huge issue that I do not have copies of my NON restricted test results ( it asks for proof but shouldn't my non restricted license be enough proof?)

Secondly is do I have to include a fee? From how I interpret it no... But I don't want to wait 7 weeks to be denied on something so simple as money...

Thanks in advanced

I'm not a CFO or work for the RCMP but... I think a photocopy of your PAL would suffice but did you get your test results back from your RPAL exams?

If I'm not mistaken, there is a surcharge for the RPAL portion, you can fill in your CC info or write them a cheque in the application form.

Yeah I sent my restricted test results ... I would think that me having a non restricted license already would prove I passed the pal course.. As for the charge it says if you have a firearms licenses under the firearms act do not enclose fee ... The only 2 exceptions is if the license is a youth license or it has been revoked... So to that wording I wouldn't think I'd have to , but it doesn't make sense that I wold have paid 60 dollars for my non res and would get rpal for free when if I wanted it off the bat it'd be 80

Just got off the phone with the RCMP . No proof is required for the pal pass just the rpal and the fee is 40 dollars (not written anywhere on the forms) just thought I'd fill everything in so if someone searches this they will have thier answer

CFC told me 80.00 and i already had my pal. This is what i sent.

The people are a bunch of morons I've now been told "no fee" .... "40 dollars" and "80 dollars" .... According to THIER wording on the form.. "If you already hold a license under the firearms act include no fee (excluding youth permits and revoked licenses)" last time I checked my standard pal is a license under the firearms act... I have to be sure to dot my Is and cross my ts but they can use unclear wording and take months for a process that should take minutes.....

If you have acquired a pal in the last 3 years then the fee is $40. If you acquired before 3 years it's $80. I just went through this as well not to long ago. I called them expecting to have $80 taken off my cc. when in fact they only took $40. This is what I was told.

I went through this almost two years ago: The only thing I recall necessary for the "upgrade" from non-restricted to restricted was to challenge and pass the restricted tests, pay the examiner $60.00: I cannot remember the paper work after that, but as I recall, I kept a copy of the results from that day and waited for something to come in the mail before mailing the works with photograph, references application etc. to Miramichi.

Hope this helps, despite the two years old info, and associated ambiguity.

I'm in the same boat- just passed my test this morning and am filling out the paperwork now. The examiner says his wife didn't get charged at all for her upgrade; I am expecting it should be $20 (the difference between the PAL and RPAL fees), so I'm adding my CC info so there's no excuse for a hiccup.

My other question, though, is can I apply for 12(x) status? I don't have any family members, etc. that could grandfather me a prohib, but I do see them for sale on the EE. I've got a feeling I'm hooped for prohibs, but gotta ask.

I also have my PAL since 09...now I want to upgrade to RPAL,what are the waiting times on that? If I understand the application right, the 28 day waiting period is only if one didn't have a PAL before-so how long does it really take (from the point of sending complete paperwork in)?

I took the test during March of 2010, and didn't get RPAL until July/August(I remember August as when I bought my first handgun): There was one mistake in the papers that was remedied with a fax machine. Had PAL previous to this point. Don't expect it to take only twenty-eight days.
