There are a number of threads over in the GEAR section about what are the best boots, but I thought I would ask the question over here based on use. I am looking for a good pair of boots primarily for upland hunting. They will also be used for other miscellaneous hunting and light hiking. I have read some good reviews on Irish Setter Wing Shooters, Salomon Quest 4D 2 GTX and Keen Gypsums. Light weight and waterproof are musts. Any recommendations? Thanks.
 
I've had good luck with the under armour speed freek. Never had a problem with water, and never treated them with anything. Got 3 years out of them busting heavy pheasant cover. They feel like running shoes but still have decent ankle support. This post is a good reminder - got to pick up a new pair - only 2 1/2 months till hunting season!
 
I like Keen boots because of the wider toe beds, most boots are pretty narrow up front and pinch my toes. I have also found keen sizing to be very consistent from model to model, so if you can try some on locally you can get your size pretty easy. I find if I am walking a lot early season I prefer a non insulated models, my feet just sweat too much, and save the insulated ones for sitting in the deer stand. Their waterproof membrane so far has worked well, but as I said above, I end up with wet feet from sweat, so I think my next pair might be a lighter weight, not insulated, maybe even vented for when I am out walking a lot.

I can't comment on the others, but irish setters are supposed to be about as good as you can get.
 
I'm on the same page as GunnerySgtJackson. I have two pairs of the Meindl Perfket's. A 7" and a 10" pair. They are extremely comfortable, waterproof, and very durable.
 
Checkout danner boots.

I have the Canadian. Its a 10 inch all leather gore tex lined and some really good insulation. Bit on the heavy side, but its nice in the late season to have warm and dry feet.
 
I've been happy with Keene footwear in general. I have a pair of their hiking boots (Targhee II Mid model) that I've used for grouse hunting. I also have sandals and casual shoes by Keen that I really like.
 
I've tried Red Wing, Sportchief, Irish Setter, Vasque and finally setlled on Danner. The Danner boots are very good. They have many models but I settled on two similar models as my go to boots. They are the:

- Striker Torrent 8" with Gortex, dernier nylon and leather with a soft Vibram sole. These are very light and sturdy boots.
- Acadia Black 8" with Gortex, dernier nylon and leather and a Vibram heavy lug sole are heavier. These are really study boots and excellent for all day wearing. They have 200 grams of insulation as well. The Acadia is made in the USA.
 
I bought a pair of Cabelas 15" pinnacles. Mainly for quadding and for my moose hunting.
2 years in and I'm very pleased... And dry.
I don't pheasant hunt but I imagine these would be perfect for such a task. They are a wear all day in comfort boot that's for sure.
I have other boots for sheep/deer/elk hunting.
