When out deer hunting we usually see lots of chickens and carry a full shotgun. Given that we are on quads and such, carrying the 28" barrel 12g Remmy is a little cumbersome. Anyone have thoughts on a compact shotgun that would be handy for this purpose? The shots are not long distance at all. Thanks.

Isn't it illegal and stupid to carry a loaded firearm in or on a motorized vehicle?

Get a shorter barrel. A 20" with an open choke(IC or M) is very handy for upland birds. And yes it is illegal to have a loaded firearm in or on any motorized vehicle.

Coachguns such as Baikal/SPR or Stoeger would be a good fit .... they are available in 12 or 20ga with 20in bbls and an OAL of aprox 36 inches. Those hinge actions are a good idea due to ease of loading/unloading promptly.

On second thoughts, another one may be the Condor Outback, short o/u now available from Stoeger....this smoothbore has fixed iron sights that would enable the use of slugs at short range should the need arise.

Get a single shot NEF pardner 20 gauge for $139 brand new. It also comes in a compact version for slightly more. I can relate to your situation and my NEF is real handy.

Knew I could count on you to translate Seal......had no idea what set 303 off!

Sorry that I misunderstood the post, I thought "full" meant full loaded while on a quad, not a good idea. I watched a guy a couple days back jump off his quad, rack the shotgun and shoot a grouse on the road. He didn't see me watching him through binoculars, but he definitely didn't have to load the shotgun to get the grouse. Beer cans and garbage follow these kind of guys around......

20 gauge

Browning BPS Upland in 20 gauge

Really nice english straight stock, short barrel (20-20")
and swing very nicely

Thanks guys, and I appreciate the ideas. I did of course mean a "full" shotgun referring to the length as opposed to "loaded" thanks Seal- I owe you one. I will take a look at buying another barrel, although isn't it ALWAYS better to buy another gun??
