Im going to buy a new shotgun soon for upland I can't decide what would be best. I have a Winchester 1200 with Modified barrel that actually does everything I need on pheasant and huns but would like a lighter gun that I can change chokes?
Im not hung up on names and have been looking at everything from Baikel to Berretta (used) ?
Any suggestions? One gun I dislike is a SxS thats my only hang up.
Any one shoot a Baikel MP 150? Ive been thinking about that . Ive also looked that the Stoeger Condor deluxe, Remington SPR 310 O/U. Id also pick a good used semi from Beretta or Benelli for around $1100 if it would carry nice in the field.
Id also like a 20 guage as they come in shorter versions.

Cheers!!

I really like the Franchi shotguns. They are well built, well balanced guns that carry well as they are very light. The Franchi Rennaisance Classic in 20 gauge weighs only 5.8 pounds! They are an Italian made gun so you know they are a quality piece. Usually these guns cost about $2000 and up new, but there is a dealer in Ontario that has a bunch for $1599 right now. I have bought two from him so far, and would like to pick up a third, but the dam mortgage payment is screwing up my plans!!

Selling a nice browning Auto 5 20 gauge with a ploy choke I have used it on pheasant, and other birds light well made classic gun like new I" ve hunted in Alberta Medicine hat Brooks area and this is a great shot gun .. photo to your email..

Huns are quick, and a nice light handling shotgun would be an asset for sure.

For some suggestions away from the traditional big names:
I like the Franchis as mentioned already, and some of the CZ models are tempting too... ....you might also look at the Yildiz shotguns now being brought in by SAKOALBERTA (a sponsor on here).

Also do check the exchange - there are some good used guns to be found.

If you're looking at a semi, you already have a good idea. Beretta and Benelli are the best out there, Prophet River Firearms (site sponsor) had the Beretta 391 Urika pkg on sale for $1200 new (complete with adjustable stock, 5 chokes, hard case, etc.) a few weeks ago, don't know if they have any left at that price.

For a quality O/U, Browning Citori is the standard that the rest are measured against. You can find a 12 ga citori in the EE in the $1000-1200 range, or new for starting about $2000 and up. The cheaper O/U are not as good quality, so expect to get what you pay for. In my opinion, the Baikal is the best of the lesser priced O/U shotguns. Reliable and well made, but maybe not as pretty as some of the others. Tradeex had some used Baikal O/U in the $350 range. Thats a heck of a buy. The Remington 310 is also made by Baikal, i believe.

browning bps upland

Browning BPS Upland, Straight English Stock, 20g, about $450 new

Ive heard great things about the Yildiz, very nice wood to boot.

I picked up a Caesar Guerini Tempio Light. Sub 6 pound 20 gauge. Figured I'm spending much more time carrying than shooting, but it cost dearly. Great gun though, well worth it.
For reasonable pricing, I was very tempted by the CZs and Yildiz.
Also, the Mossberg Silver Reserve is a nice little gun priced about the same as the Remington SPR but much nicer. I believe both are Turkish made with the Remington being a Baikal? I would happily have picked up the Mossberg if I hadn't had the CG already on order.
My only issue with Baikal is they can be a weighty gun.

Yes, either the Browning BPS Upland in 20 ga. or, if you can find one, one of the old Remington 870 Special Fields ... in the straight-stocked version ... either the 21" or 23" version. You could also add a full length stock to a Remington Express 20 gauge "JUnior", the one with the 21" barrel.

I'll give another shout out for the Franchi Reinassance. I picked up the field model from the same Ontario dealer for $1599 (tax included). Same gun as the classic just minus a few trimmings. Mine is also 20 gauge. Very light gun and handles very well. It's my first o/u so I don't have anything to compare it to but I really like it.

Based on your criteria, I'll cast my vote for a Beretta Semi. I picked up a used (nearly new) A-301M last spring and love it !!!

Other than that, I'd go with a SXS :D In the same deal as the Beretta I also picked up a mint Browning BSS in 20ga.

Sometimes, it's a coin toss to determine which one to take out ...

I've handled and shot a Yildiz, and they are nice too.

Well, you've gotten all kinds of good suggestions on shotgun brands and these guns are all good. If it's an upland gun your looking for, the one to buy is the one that fit's you best --- that's the one you will shoot best. An upland gun gun should come quickly and comfortably to your shoulder and obtain a good sight picture without having to hunt for it. In essence you should be able to look over the barrel seeing just the bead and not seeing barrel or rib. If you find a gun that fits like this and you do your part, it will be a "bird killing machine" that will shoot wher you look. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.
Cheers, John
