This is the rifle in question. A Colt Sporter II lightweight. If I were to sell the upper what would it be worth? Colt chrome lined 16 inch upper with a 1/7 twist and a non-detachable carry handle (A2 upper?)

Change whatever you want just keep the parts, you will be hard pressed to find a better barrel than Colt's and whatever you do do not give up the FSB and pins. DD makes a nice flattop upper, the stock tube is milspec so most fancy stocks will slide right on ie. LMT and the new Magpul. The handguards can be swapped as necessary.

Thats just it, I would like to sell the upper and buy a different one. Im still young here, alot for me to invest without selling off something from it. But without the original upper I was not sure.

P.S. I like the Samco grip, fits my hand nicely and I could afford to buy it and keep the original one.

I would have paid you a premium for the A2 upper a few days ago. ( I have one on order)

I am one of the only people ON EARTH who likes fixed iron sights!

You can keep it original but part of the AR lifestyle is swapping parts and making things work.

Just make sure you buy quality stuff and do the job right and I don't think the value will change that much to those who know.

You can still pay me a premium for it and Ill take it, wont refuse! Just curious, what would it be worth on the EE?

Doesn't this Colt have the large front take-down pin? If so you're probably better off selling the whole thing and start to collect parts to put one together.

Then again, why not just forget the whole looking cool idea and take it to the range and feed it some ammo?

If you ask me I would only slap on a non-FF railed handguards (Samson) and change the stock to a Magpul/Vltor and leave the rest as it is.

Okay, startin to think about changin uppers again. Never really got an answer on the value of the upper. So, what would a Colt A2 16" 1/7 CMP upper be worth? It has changed since I took that pic. It now has a Troy free floatin rail installed on it. I have the old hand guards and such here too.

If it has those large takedown pins it's only worth anything to someone with a lower that will fit.
Why not sell the whole rifle? The 1/7 twist is hard to get it seems.

I'm just guessing but $1000 to $1200 if it's mint.

If it's all Colt it's worth more complete AFAIK.

You really should post some pics!

Thats pretty high for an upper isnt it? You can get a whole Stag for not much more than that. It would be nice and thats what I would like to hear, but I dont want to post an ad with some astronomical price thatll never sell.

I meant the whole rifle! I say keep it together and it's worth more.
Also people would want an approximate round count. If I was looking for a new AR and you put the original Colt up for sale I would easily pay $1200 for the original rifle.
All the other add-ons mean nothing to me. I like the classic look and mostly use the iron sights .
