Which is recommended for a shotgun with a 12.5" barrel and bead sight. The standard Mesa Tactical Urbino stock or the model with the riser? I'm wanting to use both shot and slugs.

Bit of a shotgun noob. I already had a standard Urbino on a Grizzly Mag and sold it before I could test out the patterns.

The riser is for if you decide to use a red-dot scope on your shotgun.

Your head position would need to be a bit higher than if you were using the bead sight.

Regular non riser model will be fine. I use an Urbino with no riser on a gun with GRS and the cheek weld is ideal.
The rather drastic drop angle of the Urbino stock does bite into my high Dutch cheekbone though when firing. I'm still on the fence with this stock.

That's what I figured.

Thanks for the clarification. I keep reading about the cheek slap with these stocks. I personally never has a problem on my 8.5 Grizzly with the most powerful of shells.

I have the regular with a ramp from sight, I get some cheek slap/force but I'm a big guy with a fairly wide jaw. I'm adding ghost ring sights to my gun which I think will solve the slap issue.
