hey fellas thers a 45-70 just come online an heres what the Ad reads............... Whats likely the issue an rekon shes fixable? or hard to say?

""For parts or restore.
Was bought a year ago with plans to restore but hasn’t happened.
Barrel and rifling are in good condition.
I have cleaned it all internally, without completely stripping it all down.
Has a new extracter put in, and a Skinner peep sight as well as a weaver base for scope.
It won’t chamber, but a full size cartridge will fit in manually.
Also has issues picking up from the magazine.
Postage to be paid for by purchaser. "

only $650 aud....

I would buy it. Then head over to the marlin forum and use the info to resolve. Sounds like it's got a case of the marlin jamb. Unless someone has buggered parts by grinding/ filing already you should be able to slick it right up. Often the original issue is a slight burr or machining that needs smoothing out. Once in a while a ham fisted bubba will get the grinder out and remove too much materials requiring new parts...Marlins are simple beasts with few parts....on this side of the pond parts are cheap.....not sure about in Aussie....

An excellent rifle in a fantastic"stop everything in its tracks including a T-Rex" cartridge. Buy it, fix it and love it forever!

Not enough information to come up with a specific answer but, I suspect a timing issue is part of the problem. Possibly linked to a worn carrier. AKA: The "Marlin Jam". The easy fix: Replace the carrier.

If cartridges are only feeding partway out of the magazine tube, the likely cause is a loose loading gate screw. A common problem with Marlin rifles. Tightening the screw back up should solve that problem.

It is also possible that the magazine tube itself is dented, or has a burr inside it(or rusted from neglect), which is causing cartridges to jam in the tube, rather than feed. A lot of times, this problem occurs right where the magazine tube joins the receiver. Honing and smoothing that area usually fixes the problem.

Another possibility is that the cheap plastic magazine follower Marlin puts in their rifles has cracked and sticks in the tube... preventing rounds from chambering. In which case, replace it with a steel follower.

The problems with this rifle are likely quite minor, and easy to fix. Price seems a bit high, for a rifle with those issues, though. Especially here, in North America. But may be a good bargain, in Australia. Should you decide to buy the rifle, I'd suggest starting with the cheapest fixes first: Tighten all screws. Replace magazine follower....before replacing the carrier. If the feeding problems persist, then consider a carrier replacement.

hey Thanks!
in Aus these things are fairly expensive, $1500 for the same in 'good' cond..hence why i thought about askin for what maaaayyyy be wrong with it, before i contact the guy...

the 1985sbl stainless are $2400...

Sounds like it could be a good one to buy, fix, try and possibly, if too big for my criteria, sell for profit, as i have a 38/55 which is a handful..but the marlins stocks are a bit better

i might call him now
