us-canadian import rules

Most if not all of the bigger places will not ship a scope cross border I don't know if it is actual rules or just risk management. Recently I got one off of ebay and one from a mom and pop sort of internet shop. From a Canadian perspective a scope is just like any other consumer item, I paied duty and GST on it and that all that customs cares about that sort of item, as opposed to a gun or ammunition which require a PAL, or somthing like a suppressor which is illegal to own.

But from the American perspective it could be a different thing all together the act of exporting it may well have been illegal. My take is that the patriot act is not clear to what it covers so the bigger outfits look at the profits and say the possible trouble is not worth it. But one thing I say is that to do the math because by the time it is here you may not have saved any money.

I believe a scope is considered a "firearm part"

From the legalese section
Q4. I want to buy parts in the US for my firearm and import them into Canada.
A4. The US controls on the export of firearms extends to parts also. For small orders worth less than US$100.00 the US Department of State allows an exemption from the export licence. This exemption, however, does not cover ‘significant’ parts which includes; barrels, slides, cylinders, bolts, frames and receivers. It should be noted that there is no equivalent exemption offered by the Department of Commerce for shotgun parts. Further, there is no exemption for ammunition or ammunition components. Canadian importers should follow the procedure outlined in Q1 (above) to import parts not exempted

so,if I buy a scope when I am in the states,I cannot simply declare it at customs on re entering the Canada as part of my purchases?I haven't done it for years but I used to always pick up a brick of 22 ammunition and a couple of boxes of hunting ammunition.I bought a TC renegade kit about 15 years ago in LA and there was no problem with that either

I think You might have to sneek it in between your bum cheeks. Hope your not planning on getting a 50mm....:D :D :D

It is NOT Canada customs that is the problem, they only want your money. If you get checked by the US border protection guys, you could be in deep ####. I saw a guy loose his new Corvette over this sort of thing. The times have changed from what went on 10 years ago
