Hi guys,
First about me:
I grew up in the US and Switzerland, always having firearms around me. My father is a hunter and he took me along on his hunting trips, where I got in touch with guns and being outdoors. Now he established with my Uncle (Canadian) a business in downtown Calgary. They either work in Montana or Alberta (differs on their oil projects). Next year I’ll move to Alberta to help them out and possibly start studying. Since I love going shooting I started looking into the Canadian firearms law and the following questions popped up:
a) can I own as an American citizen firearms (restricted and non-restricted) in Alberta?
b) is Alberta a firearm friendly state?

In March, I’ll be visiting Alberta for a short time before I head home, sorting things out before I make my move. I thought about attending a firearms safety course in Calgary. Following isn’t quiet clear for me:
c) is it ok if I state my out-of-Canada home address?
d) will I receive the proof that I attended the firearm safety course at the end of the day so I can attach it to the form?
e) can I use my father (who lives in the US) as a reference?
f) can the person stated as reference be the same as the photo guarantor?
g) my dad’s phone number (if used as reference) is not Canadian. Does it matter

Thank you for your help and if it's possible I'm looking forward being a member of the Canadian firearms community.

Yes you can get a PAL card as an American. You can actually apply for it now using your current US address. Depending on your schedule you might consider a wknd trip to AB to complete your firearms course which you'll need anyways.
