I was told the other day that the US government has started denying export permits for all .223 ammunition. Do you know if this is correct, and if it is, do you know the reason, and how it is expected to impact supply? Thanks.

The source was a local gun dealer. She is knowledgeable. She offhandedly suggested stocking up on .223 as the US govt has stopped issuing export permits for it. I figured this would be one of those democratic back door gun control measures, but figured if nothing else that SFRC would have heard about it as they are high volume importers.

Look at the date: Feb 2009....

Prices have dropped over 1/3 since then and availability has increased.

I see no problems.

It's been a rumor that keeps popping up. Not your fault, you're just passing along info that might help other shooters. But what I've learned from reddit, we always gotta check sources for ourselves :)

Maybe that was a sales pitch… Just saying…

What's the ####ing point, while we are awash in milsurp 7.62x39 and 7.62x54, as well as 7.62x51 from China and 223 from Russian Wolf?

I've dealt with state.gov and they've gone out of their way to be most incredible jerks in the universe, but justifying a ban on 223 export would be tough even for them.

That is so unfortunate. we will be stuck buying Swiss Ruag, PMC, Lapua, other European makes and it might encourage a Canadian Company to start up. When one door closes another opens. I am failing to see any bad news here.
