It appears that the days of the Berretta M92 /M9 are nearing the end as the service pistol of the US Forces. Is due to the apparent issues that saw the 45 Colt reintroduced as the sidearm back in 1892 the apparent lack of stopping power. The new pistol is more than likely the HK USP model it features all the desired reqirements that the military deems essential. Remember that the Military uses Full metal Jacketed bullets not Hollow points that work much better

Call me nieve, I thought the glock was the most popular US military side arm?

Here's a picture of what will most likely be the next U.S. Army sidearm:

What ever it is... if it's a Eurpopean semi-auto like the HK the parts will have to be imported to the USA or HK will have to build a factory in the USA, so the new pistol can be "assembled" in the USA so the Americans can claim that it's USA "built" otherwise they won't adopt it. You can bet on that one. ;)

Will this have an effect on product prices for the consumer? Not likely I'm guessing.

It'll cost more because every one will want one the way they did with the beretta's. Nothing wrong with the beretta's as such, esp. if you have big hands, but they aren't THAT nice......

FLAME ON!

:p

I would be suprised if the M9 was dropped by more than a handful of units within the Armed Forces. For the vast majority of trades and services, the pistol is still an afterthought. Some SF types may make greater use of the pistol, and warrant the issue of better gear, but most fighting forces still use the rifle, and only go to the pistol as a last resort.

I thought the decision to produce in the States was made a year or so ago, or am I thinking of the Sig plant in New Hamshire ?

Don't we read that the US is changing pistols to such and such pistol every week. The M9 is going to be around for many, many years. Someone show me some proof that there is going to be a change, a government tender, a contract or something, otherwise it's some HK fan dreaming again.........

Until they build them in the States, there will be no HK's on any US soldiers holsters, thats my take on the situation.

There are several other sidearms purchased and issued to US Troops besides the M9. I am sure that if the official sidearm of the US Troops is changed, there will be no doubt as to what and when. I cannot speak for other branches, but in the Marines, as far as the M9 remaining in the inventory for the future, well it took 40+ years for them to officially phase out the 1911, the M9 officially replaced the M9 in the late 80s (in 89 there were still a few around, but most FMF units had the brand spankin new M9 and everyone was learning to Q on them). If they follow this trend, then the M9 should be around for another 2030+ LOL.... That with a supply of 1911, .357 revolvers, some .22LR, Ruger and Sigs.
