Just got back from the US Open Sporting Clays championship in Owenton Kentucky.
The shoot was held in the Kentucky mountains where nothing is flat. Shooting positions were along ridges and in hollows. Targets were generally below our feet, but they made good use of traps set on hillsides, towers and lifts.
Shoot went all of last week. A prelim of 100 targets, main event of 200 targets over 3 days, FITASC, 5 stand, long bird, make-a-break and a final Farewell shoot on Sunday.
There were about 1250 shooters. It was very hot and humid, and shooting was stopped once because of thunder storms, but things resumed once it passed.
The terrain was quote steep and challenging. A cart was a must. We trailered ours from Canada. It worked well, but we charged it every night at the motel. It would not have lasted 4 days on a single charge. A gas cart is a better alternative for that kind of course.
Looking forward to the US Nationals in San Antonio in late October.

Wow! My hat is off to you sir. I was in Kentucky a few years ago and the heat & humidity were insane, and all I was doing was standing around (was going through the back lot of the armor museum at Ft. Knox). I did discover that the frozen food section in a Walmart had the nicest climate, though they did object when I started moving a table, chairs and a cot over from various departments. :)

Back to the important matters though...how did you fare at the shoot? And were there (m)any other Canadians there? Pics would be great too.
