Hey guys, I've decided to go with fixed 10 power glass on my long range (no farther than 1000 yards) 308. I'm seriously considering the us optics St 10. Anyone have any experience? I don't really like the fact the objective is only 37mm. I thought you could custom order different sizes, but after visiting their website it looks like 37 is all that is available. Unless I'm missing something. What other options are out there in fixed power that you think might be better? I don't need to hear that 10 power is not enough, I've already proven to myself that it is. I'm going for optic quality first and foremost and adjustable power eats up a lot of money that could be better spent on glass.

The reason people want zoom for the most part is for hunting / tatacool (who really uses a LR set-up for tactical in canada?). You are right, 10x can do pretty much everything, althoug I find myself shooting at 12-16x most often, although I could easily do it at 10x. Less zoom also creates a wider view which allows you to easily review wind conditions downrange.

Some people have issues finding target. At 10x you shouldn't have an issue.

From my research, for the money the ST-10 is some of the best glass and quality scope you can buy.

Similar to primary lenses on camera gear, fixed lenses have less glass, therefore less light loss. I doubt you'll have a problem at 37mm objective. You add zoom lenses and big objectives and you talk more lenses and more light loss.

Options are limited in this catagory. Research a bit more but I feel you'll come back to this scope.

Better question is where can you get it in Canada, or are you planning on importing one?

We at One Shot Tactical can and do supply a lot of USO scopes. We have a few in stock but most are custom ordered from the factory as there are so many options with them.

Please feel free to contact me, mark@oneshottactical.com, I will be able to give you a quote and discuss any options you may need.

If the scope is stock at the factory delivery is within a few weeks, if the order is custom then it takes up to 16 weeks to be built

I had the 44mm version which they don't make any more ( only 37mm ) . Don't get too hung up with that, I would take the 37mm ST10 over lots of lesser quality 50mm objective scopes
I liked they EREK knob . Only reason I sold it was I bought a S&B PMII 10X42 . Only advantage of the ST-10 there are lots of options.

No options however for the PMII ( .1MRAD and P3 recticle is the only choice )

IMO once you start buying S&B PMII you will be hooked !

When you are spending as much as you are on a scope you need to check out the options, such as the PMII fixed 10

As far as fixed being noticeably brighter than variable , you need to look through a S&B PMII variable and compare for yourself

Lastly, the S&B PMII fixed 10 has a more conventional 30mm tube .

The S&B was the next in line for me to research. I do believe the USO ST 10 is a 30mm tube as well. I'm thinking the only extra option I would want is the illuminated reticle. What also looks very interesting with the uso is the option to have an internally built in level below the reticle! How cool is that! I'm just not sure it would be for me without spending some time behind it first. I would also opt for the MOA turret and reticle on the us optic, just because that's what I know. Where did you pick up your s&b and what was the price tag? I'm sure the quality of the s&b is great, but I was real impressed with the abuse the uso took on YouTube and stayed perfectly dialed in when re mounted.

Sorry, should have been more clear, the S&B 10X42 is a 30mm unlike all the other PMIIs . I bought mine years ago from Wolverines for about $1600 ( can't remember ) . They run in the $2K range now.

I highly doubt you would bugger up your a PMII to a point where it was non functional . I think if they managed to win the US military dayscope contract its got to be pretty robust. US Marines have been using the 3-12 for years as well
