Anyone identify this one for me? I'm assuming it's for a M1 Garand but it looks too narrow for a Garand and too long for a Carbine.

-There is a belief that this was actually a Carbine case modified for the Garand, in order to fill a Q.M. order.
-Another theory is that this particular maker made a mistake in cutting the material and simply patched together the end piece.
-The last theory was that a surplus house modified these cases in the 1960's to include with the purchase of an M-1 Garand.
-Some have even said this variation was modified for use with the M1903 rifle.
I have seen a lot of these cases in the past 35 years of collecting, though most were un-modified pieces for both the M-1 carbine and Garand. I have one exactly the same as the one pictured which came with a Garand I bought a number of years ago. The Garand will fit, albeit a bit snug.
The case looks to be in decent condition, with all the straps intact...I assume the zipper works...if so that is a bonus.

The Garand case you have runs any where from $40 to $100.
With out the extra piece on the end they average $75 to $125
An original carbine case is a bit more, $150 to $200, the paratrooper M1-A1 carry case can bring as high as $350 to $400.
BTW...I collect U.S Militaria and have seen these things frequently...check my thread in HOBBIES and GADGETS under "Mini Museum".
Cheers

I do recall seeing a hard leather carry case for the BAR, It may have been WW1 issue though. Have never seen a specific case for the Johnson, though the USMC had a case for the Johnson LMG, primarily for the para-Marine. They broke the gun down into three pieces and inserted into a padded zippered case.
