Hello all,
I have a 1911 slide that I would like to identify. It does not have any manufacturers stamp, only a "P" in front of the rear sight. It has what looks like a parkerized finish. From a quick google search it appears to be a US&S slide. Does anyone know if US&S made slides with out any other stamping except for the the "P" proofing mark??

If it doesn't have any manufactures script on it other than the "P" proof in front of the rear site what makes you think it is a "US&S" slide?

Need to see a closeup pic of each side & the top then we'll go from there.... ;)

From my resources, it looks like Union Switch and Signal produced just over 50K pistols. All images I have seen show the slide clearly marked. Is the 'P' not a generic mark in that location to indicate 'proofed'? My GI National Match turned out to be a commercial Colt without any of the usual markings and a Remington Rand slide, that had been assembled to be sold as a true GI NM. Not that I am unhappy with a 1957 Commercial :) The only mark on the entire frame other than the s/n is a "p" on the trigger guard. Finding out exactly what we have is all part of the fun!

Reread the OP.

If it only has a "P" on it and nothing else. Veyr difficult to tie it to any specific manufacturer.

Got it, yes I agree. Just wonder what made him think it was even a US&S mfg slide. Unless the "P" proof was off to the side like in some of the early "P" proofed US&S examples... ;)

Just a point of fact, not all US&S pistols were "P" proofed.... ;)

What makes me think it is a US&S slide is that when I did a google search, that is the only reference that I found.

Here are some pictures... I hope it works as this is my first picture post.

Well, friend, at least it doesn't say "Made in China" anywhere on it!

I have no idea what it is, but the one thing I will say is that some of those things are just marvellously mixed-up. My own .45 has a Colt frame, a Remington-Rand slide and a chrome-lined Harrington & Richardson Viet-Nam jungle special barrel. The Good Lord Himself might have a small clue as to who made the rest of it, but I sure don't!
Had a heck of a time explaining to the Gummint that it was NOT a typewriter and that it was NOT made by Remington The Gun Company but, rather, was an Ordnance Corps mishmash of parts from at least three wars. Finally, it all got straightened about and it is officially a handgun. That chrome barrel sure shoots nice and it adds a bit over 100 ft/sec to whatever load you are using. Just wish it wouldn't jam so much.

I wish you all the luck in the world in ID-ing your critter.
