Wondering if it's within the rules to use a small folding foot stool as a substitute for a bag or pad in a PRS competition? I couldn't find anything against it in the rules. I can see it giving support from the ground or even on some props to torso, bums, knees, elbows. Very quick to open and deploy or collaspe for movement.

Generally speaking you can use whatever you like but the course of fire for most stages generally require you to start with all gear in hand. So as long as you can start holding your rifle, the stool and whatever other gear you want to use, I don't see why you couldn't. Plenty of guys start a stage holding a rifle, gamechanger-type bag and a tripod so it'd be do-able although honestly I don't see it being that useful and more likely than not will get in the way and eat time. I'd suggest practicing using it in simulated stages to see how useful it is before trying it at a match.

I don’t think it would be a substitute for a bag as you don’t want hard in hard contact. If you are using it for rear support a tripod would definitely be a better option. For CRPS you have to deploy on the clock. As mentioned if you are looking to fill negative space, a pump pillow will do the trick.

In the long run, you are far better off getting good at using a single gamechanger style bag. You won't find a stage where you can't use one, and supports like pillows, tripods (and foot stools) are more niche items for specific situations.
