My first entry into the world of the Black rifle. I was tempted to go with a build, as I have a knowledgable friend to assist but....

The offer of a pre-loved NEA AR15 14.5 landed in front of me, and was too much to resist. :ar15:

The rifle has a brand new barrel and is in very good condition. It came 'naked' so I threw a set of BUIS on it pending the arrival of a red-dot.
The first short-ish trip to the range involved 60 rnds of zeroing in and some 'snap' shooting at 25m.

Overall impressions? Great rifle. Really enjoyed shooting it. Feels nice and tight, well balanced and performed flawlessly. It's one of the first ones (less than number 30) so the trigger is heavy. 3 rd groups were about an inch at 25 & 50m, and will easily be better with a lighter trigger. Snap shots at 25m were all inside a 7" plate.

I'm not very familiar with the platform yet, but I'm extremely happy with how it performed. The accuracy seems right up there, and I'm sure will be more evident as I get more used to it.

Now I just have to save up for the ammo and extensive list of bolt-on goodies I need :D

Order a replacement trigger spring from Brownells or e-mail NEA and see if they will ship you the upgraded trigger spring they now use.

It's easy to change out and will make all the difference in the world.

You've already noticed the biggest issue with the AR (all mil style semis actually - but I prefer not to think of this problem with a Garand, it would be just too painful) AMMUNITION - there is never enough, I don't think there even CAN be enough - from experience, 500 rounds isn't "enough" and I've been told 1,000 isn't "enough" either. It's bad when you blow away $300 in an afternoon and you don't feel satisfied, but like I said, it could be worse - I could be hooked on Garands.

Sorry for the poor phone pics - better ones coming!

Thanks all. A friend has a spare 5lb trigger that I can drop in, and optics are just waiting to go on. I'll post some proper pics then.

Draezin, you'll love the NEA when you get your hands on it :)

Enefgee - those 1000rnd cans of Federal keep calling me....

I'm starting to get the AR addiction........I can feel my beard growing already ;)
