Used police pistols--a good buy?

I am thinking used police pistols have actually been fired very little, but carried a lot. I also assume they would be cared for by a professional armourer. So it sounds like a good buy. What if they have not been refurbished--still a good deal?

What do you think?

Glock yeah, Beretta no.... ;)

The Sig 226 cop refurbs floating around look pretty good. Just some holster wear on several ive seen. Do police actually shoot their guns at all?

You don't want a Beretta 96 period, I think that is what NAA is getting at! ;)

Generally cops don't fire their pistols much. I would have no problem picking up a police trade in - dependant on the brand of course. Glocks, good to go. Beretta 96. Hmmm...

"...carried a lot..." With little to no daily maintenance by the user. Most cops take their issue firearms in to the department armourer when they don't work. Cops are the worst for looking after their issued kit. Mind you, there aren't many used cop firearms that ever get sold to the Canadian public.

I picked up a factory re-furbished Sig P226 in .40, the pistol looked brand new!! Not a single holster mark or scuff on it. The slide rails had no wear marks and the barrel had 4 smiley's on it (sig owners will know these:) )

Not bad for $300+ cheaper than new!

BTW it came with tritium night sights and was a DA/SA model.

edit: +1 Al Simmons, that's where I bought mine. Tim is awesome, no pressure, very friendly!!

I picked up a refurbished Sig 220 at Al Simmons and the damn thing looked like it had no more then a box of shells down the pipe.
It is by far my favorate gun and shots like a lazer beam.........too bad I don`t.
Tim was great, we broke it down so I could check all the internals and everything looked like it new.
About 500-600 rounds later and I still love that gun.

I have owned quite a few used handguns and many them were police trade ins; I have never had a problem with any of them. I love the S&W Model 6906 I bought for $275. Had I purchased the M6906 first I doubt I would have bought a Glock 19; the M6906 does everything as well as the G19. Regards, Richard :D
