I am new to rifle shooting.
My main interest has been handgun shooting.
I bought a Savage VLP in .223 and am very impressed with it's accuracy.
It has a 1:9 twist and shoots 69gr. Sierra Matchkings beautifully.
I've tried lighter bullets and big loss in accuracy.
I think I'll stick with the Sierras.
I saw a mint Remington VLS yesterday.
It had been lightly used, but looked new.
$695.
It has a 1:12 twist rate.
I thought it might be nice to have and be able to load some lighter bullets.
I am only using these rifles for range shooting at 100 yds.
Does Remington still produce this model.
Is the asking price in line.
Do I just have gun lust and want to fill a space in my safe?
What do you guys think of this rifle and my reasoning?

On the plus side: It should shoot the 40-55gr bullets very nicely. Will always be worth around what it's listed for now, they seem to go about a grand new - yes, this gun (at least by name, unsure on model changes over time) is still made today. You'll be able to use most of the same reloading gear, maybe all except bullets depending on what powder you're using.

On the minus: OK now you have 2 guns in the same caliber, capable of doing generally the same thing. If you're maxed at 100 yds on the range anyways, why not try something different? In a similar situation to yours, I recently bought a 110FP Savage in 7mm Rem Mag for something different to shoot at the range, sort of a continuation/graduation of my (mostly self-) training. Tho where I go mostly, they do have longer ranges available.

My Savage BTVS 26" 1/9" twist shoots 52gr BTHP's verrry nicely. I have the opposite problem, MK's don't shoot worth a darn.
