Used scope from US?

I found little results from doing a search so I'll try asking folks if others are aware of current polocy regarding imports of used rifle scopes from the US? I get the feeling things have gotten rather difficult, lately.

As far as I know you (or the seller if they are shipping it up to you)) need to get an export permit from the US Gov't. Don't recall off hand if it's the State Dept or who it is from but it is required for exporting a scope from the US, either new or used. No problems importing into Canada on our end - they just want their pound of flesh so have your receipt in order for tax purposes.

I've since found this topic within some other threads and it looks like an import permit must first be generated before the US will generate the necessary export permit.

Sad that none of this is widely known until you bump into it. I'm planning to shop nearer home because of this.

I think that the export permit is only required for tactical style scopes, but I could be wrong.
