I just bought this used at gun store, it was a trade in for 179 and I got'em down to 150 bucks. :d:d

It did however need a bit of cleaning up...

Sorry not many before photos, but I did get a photo of the stock prior to shellacing, someone had spray painted the stock black and then tried to remove the old paint which made a mess. So I used paint stripper and gave it a light sand after words, I custom made this shellac from Zinsser amber shellac. I added a bottle of red and half to a quarter of yellow club house food colouring...I know I know I didn't write down the recipe exactly. It is one thick coat then wet sanded with 400 grit then I added a 2nd thin coat.

I also steel wooled and re polished the carrier and bolt as it had a few rusty spots, the gas tube and barrel had a few small rusty areas also which I had to re-blue and cleaned it up nice.

So some observed oddities on this rifle...

The information on this rifle is very sparse markings wise. No manufacturer marks can be found anywhere, The bolt is polished but almost looks more chrome then the Russian polished ones and It obviously has a bayonet plus its got the full length barrel lug, milled trigger group and the edges on the receiver are beveled which looks just like how the Russians did it to me. It leads me to believe its an early Chinese military design.

Its missing the a cleaning rod too so if anyone knows where to find one please advise.

yeah took a 5/10 and made a 8-9. I'm really happy with how the shellac looks, very accurate and close in my opinion.

Twice the price, but still listed as in stock. Check your local gun shows too, lots of spare parts from sporterized SKS's.

I guess I need to go to the right gun shows, I was expecting to see lots of SKS parts, especially stocks (so I can get the trapdoors).
What do you "sporterizers" do with your parts when you change stocks? Do you keep them in case you change your mind or for the next buyer?
Notice I didn't call anyone a "Bubba" I'm being polite and asking where the old SKS parts are so that I can give them new life.

I put this Type 56 together last month from a multitude of spare/mismatched parts.
Some parts were mine, some I bought from vendors, some were gifted to me, some I put WTB ads up for.

Strange, I've never seen one like that before.

It looks like a Sino-Soviet that was export marked and electro-pencilled for commercial sales.

The serial number would be wrong though and I don't know that they made any with that crappy Chu wood.

If it is authentic, then it should have been manufactured at the Jianshe Arsenal, Factory 26.

Apparently, that is the only factory to receive and utilize the Soviet blade bayonets.

Edit: I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner.

It's probably just a commercial rifle (with a threaded barrel) that's been given a blade bayonet and stuck in a pot-bellied Chu wood stock.

BTW, good job on the refinishing!
