Fellas i have a whack of once fired .270 cases. Any thing wrong with putting em throught my 06 sizer and loading up some .30-06 shells??

.................i don't have a .270 nor do any hunting partners so a catastrophic mix up shouldn't be in the cards.:D

They will work but make damn sure they don't end up with someone stuffing them in a 270.

There was at least one case I heard about where a fellow had died and his hunting gear was given away or sold. The 270 cases holding 30 caliber bullets ended up with a young hunter who didn't understand that excessive resistance when chambering a round was a "red flag" warning. Anyways he managed to push the 30 caliber bullet back into the case and crimp the case neck down. Upon pulling the trigger the rifle self-disassembled and killed him.

That brings up a good question: How can I remark brass that I have resized to a different calibre so that it's pretty obvious that it's not what the headstamp indicates? I have a bunch of .284 Winchester that I resized for 7.5x55 Swiss.

I.D. Brass

Have had to use brass to form other cartridges before. I have never been able to restamp them but in order to make them NOTICED I use a dremel tool and cut ball. I just cut thru the calibre designation on the head stamp just deep enough to obliterate the factory numberings. It is quick and easy and will not weaken the case head. Work from the inside to toward the outside to avoid cuttin the case rim. Practice on a couple of crap casings first and hold the casings in something snug. I use thin leather wrap in a small bench vise. Hold the casing at the solid head area and works fine.
Carry on!

'Boo, that is more than a little hard to believe.

Just try chambering an empty, full-length sized , with no bullet seated, 30-06 case in a 270 rifle.

It is simply impossible to do so, never mind doing it with a bullet seated.

I'm with WhyNot on this. You'd have to close the action with a 3 pound ball-peen hammer. And if you did that and then fired it, it's one of those Darwin award things.
And firing .270 cases in a .30-'06 chamber will sometimes blow a little gas back (because you get insufficent pressure for a good seal) but otherwise no harm, as long as you don't expect to hit anything.
