I find myself looking at guns in this great old cartridge. I have no real need for it and have sold my 375s. The finger lengthed torpedo shaped ammo seems to call. Because of health and other stuff I no longer hunt big game so why a hunting gun? Who shoots the big rimmed cartridge, and what are your views? Thanks guys, AJ.

I have had three rifles in 9.3X74R... I really like the cartridge and think it near perfect as a moose/bear gun. Mine were a H&R Handi swap barrel set (stubbed), Ruger No.1 Medium Sporter and a Sabatti Classic 92 SXS.

I agree that those long ###y cases are very alluring... that is why I keep buying another when I sell one.

I have used by over / under BRNO 9.3x74 on game from lions to zebra. Dozens of Kudu and gemsbok. I know it is the same ballisticaly as the 9.3x62 which I love as well, but the o/u is a long time favorite rifle. It hits hard...the 286 Oryx bullet is a favorite as well as the Nosler Partition in 286 gr.
Very manageable recoil in my relatively heavy BRNO double and very very accurate. Scoped, it has done one shot wonders at 200-250 yds.
Positive extraction with the rim, hits hard, accurate when given the chance and animals tend to just crumple with the bullet. Nothing bad to say at all.

I have the rimless version but I would hunt a nice #1 in x74 any day of the week. Or better yet one of those o/u doubles from Chapuis. That could be a fun woods rifle.

Me three ... and there are a few other pretty nice O/U's and SxS's out there chambered for this cartridge.
Another "lady finger" cartridge of similar shape I like is the 6x70 ... like a very mild mannered 243.

my favourite calibre,i have 2 of them ,one is custom drilling, other one is double, perfect cartridge, all one shot kills
