Going through my spare parts bin yesterday I came across this gem of polished turd that I bought on the EE a few years back. One of many aftermarket SKS products which leaves me wondering if these were ever tested on a real SKS carbine by real shooters before they went into sweat shop production.

In use I right away noticed that the shorter picatinny mount aka cheese-grater on the right side should have been made to sit near the rear of the receiver cover, as ones hand gets gouged as they work the action.

The picattiny base on mine also sports a sloppy finish of gouged out holes of a dull drill bit which adding to insult appears to have been done after the thing was painted given the scratches in the metal around the holes.

In Engrish the instructions say one might have to file the tips to fit "each unique SKS". But that is only half the problem.

I tested this low grade aluminum crap mount on two Chinese SKS carbines one made in the 80's the other in the late 50's, the result were the same, jam jam jam.

Taking a closer look the inside rail is simply too thick for the bolt carrier to slide along, which binds the bolt open and jams it open. These rails by my estimates as much as twice as thick as the original receiver cover guide rails, and unless one has some precision machinery, hand grinding is simply not an option as the inside rails are crucial for the smooth function of the carbine.

To make matters worse the adjustable retaining bolts that sit against the receiver bend the cover out of shape as one tightens the four hex bolts as hidden under the rail cluster f**k the receiver cover is unusually thin.

Also with amusement I noticed these bolts can take a hex key from IKEA only the Swedes would have built a product that worked.

On a further note holding the carbine next to a lamp I could see light through the seam of the fit between this crappy receiver cover and the carbines receiver...not straight, but wavy.

Overall product rating...JUNK! :puke:

This is my third and last try at an SKS receiver cover scope mount.
This mount is right up there with the Mason Jamo’matic mag.
Poor Simonov must be rolling in his grave.

Furthermore in practicality even if I were to drill and tap and mount weaver scope bases on a original receiver cover it would not solve the issue of the movement of the cover itself...which will throw the scopes zero all over the place with each slamming of the bolt carrier inside the receiver. I like to call it the MOA wiggle.

Your results may vary, but I would save the money for ammo instead or invest in the original tried and true Russian/Soviet solution of a side receiver scope mount. /rant off.

+1 its total crap and does not fit whatsoever.
Marstar should not even sell these.
I spent more on dremel bits to make this damn thing fit than the crappy thing cost int he first place.
I would never have expected to have to grind the INSIDE of the receiver so much to make the bolt fit and not jam needing a HAMMER to dislodge it.

@John for the record I had no idea Marstar sold these, as I bought mine on the EE second hand.

@Goozyman I'm sure John can help you out.

x2. Russians have designed specific side rails for SKS rifles. They are real things!
