Guess?
With all of the dismantling and painting of my USGI stock, I went to reassemble it tonight and I think I am missing something. While the bottom bolt threads into the sling swivel, is the top bolt supposed to thread into a nut inserted into the hole? It has been some time since I took it apart and I cannot remember.

Yes. The synthetic stock uses a V-shaped folded steel "nut" to catch the top screw. The bottom one of course threads into the rear sling loop.

Just take the screw to the hardware store and ask for a square nut that fits the thread.Push it into place and screw away.Worked for me.

 DOH!! I guess I could do that too! Thanks..

P.S.

Feel better knowing I ain't the first person to lose it! :D

Cheers!

Home Depot proposition... It's a number 8 x 32 IIRC, or something like that. Then again, the buttplate folds over the screw, so anything like a #8 x 32 x 2.0" long will do the trick.

Cheers,
Barney

I have the bolts and nuts in SS. the large square nuts with bolts aren't as easy to find as you would think. I also have the forward cap screws and nuts for the forward sling swivel, also in SS. Its the same set up that the NRA shooters use. I had to get them from the US. they are not metric....doesn't matter.

The size is 10-32 on the square nut. Not sure if you have them in Canada , but a good hardware store should have these nuts.
If not send me a PM and I will send you a couple !
