Hi I PU this 1943 Colt, with a Remington Rand Type 3 Slide. It has some markings I can't identify, help!!
Inside frame at the rear "G". Right Trigger Guard front looks like a 4. Left Trigger Guard, K with down arrow below.
Thanks, Bob

The "G" on the frame means it was made to fill a Government contract.

Since you say the frame is "GHD" inspected, it must be a Colt mfg. If you check one side of the trigger guard bow you will likely see the Colt "verified proof" [will look like a tiny "VP" in a triangle - may be very lightly struck on a Colt 1911A1 GI production frame]. The other two marks you indicate are just maker marks as the frame was in production.

You might want to post clearer pics of your pistol, too.

Any idea of the value of one of these? I have one as well, sounds identical to yours. Pretty damn good condition, too.

Don't ask him, he basically gave his away on the EE yesterday. :p

On USGI 1911A1 values, basically, condition & originality trumps everything. An all matching, correct, original condition nice shape USGI will bring good dollars. Colt & Remington-Rand mfg are the most common due to high production numbers. Ithaca runs a distant third for production numbers [so therefore harder to comeby]. The US&S is a very distant 4th after the Ithaca, even harder to find but still attainable if one is patient. [Only took me ~ 25 years to find mine]. The real deal Singer mfg USGI 1911A1 at a production run of 500 is pretty much a "no find" in Canada.

To recap the above..... Colt is the most desireable of the big three [Colt, Rem-Rand, Ithaca]. I'd put the US&S at second [sometimes first in some collectors books, as they are lovely]. IMHO the Ithaca is third and Remington-Rand fourth [lots of production, not too hard to find].

If you have a mix-master [ie. Rem Rand slide on Colt frame, etc] refinished 'shooter' that is in decent shape prices usually start around $750.
