USGI front sight on Norc m14- stock vs Match

At the clinic in Vankleek (thanks Hungry by the way) - Hungry explained that some of the Norc front sights weren't made very well. I am going to put a Garand rear sight on my Norc, but will a Garand FRONT sight and screw fit on a Norc as well? Or is there some requirement to get an M1A front sight?

Also- NM front sights are somewhat more expensive- if I were to shoot out to 500m would the NM sight make a huge difference? (I'm not planning to win huge competitions, but I would like any major assistance in accuracy that's available). Thanks.

Okay, thank you, that will save me some money- now can anyone let me in on how useful a match front sight is? Like I said I'm not running out to win competitions tomorrow, but I can shoot well beyond most available ranges. So if I were to compare the two sights would I say "wow, the NM is much better"? or just "wow, that was 30 bucks extra"?

I was thinking of replacing my front sight too. Tech-Sights has an interesting replacement for US$59 plus mail. Here is what it looks like.
 
I have seen that. It looks interesting, and would be a very sharp point, but I wonder if it wouldn't be smaller than necessary. As in, would that not be difficult to focus on if attempting to accure a rapid sight picture? I am thinking that the difference in length of an ar-15 barrel vs m14 barrel might cause it to be too small- anyone have an experience with this?
 
NM front sights are thinner profile... In my opinion, they are a lot better. It gives you more view of the target at a longer range, just depends if you are doing a 12 o clock hold, 6 o clock hold or however you like to aim the gun.

M39a2 probably could explain this more to you, but the NM milled sights are a huge bonus if you ask me. All 3 of my battle rifles have, or are in the process of getting NM sights.
 
Sure, why not? Fabsports advertises them as an "M-14" part precisely for that reason I would think. You may need a cheek rest though.
 
I filed then blued a standard Norinco front sight to narrow it. Turns out pretty similar to the NM front sight, which I also have. At 200 plus yards, the stock sights are a little wide for aiming, for my liking. Also, the sight that comes with your Norinco, may or may not be shaped properly or symetrically, and that's irritating to me when one side looks different than the other. You can buy a Garand rear (from the ebay guy in Italy), then order the NM rear aperture to further improve it. Nice setup, not a lot of money.

Plus it gives you 1/2 MOA adjustment with the aperature.
