Hey,
I've been browsing the web for a nice USGI synthetic stock and found eBay to feature some of the cheapest ones. Now, the problem is that all those sellers seem to ship only to the US - not Canada.

My question would be whether, if I could have it shipped to a US friend, he could legally (without Import/Export license and all that jazz) ship it on to me in Canada?

Thanks,
Schuultz

If the add states "Ships to: United States" pose the question "Will you ship this item to Canada?". Some will, some won't. If the details of the add states "US Only, no international sales", don't bother.

I have obtained a few USGI "M1A:rolleyes:" stocks at very reasonable prices including shipping via ebay.

Good Luck,

Montey

No.

Even if he were to falsely declare it as a M1A stock, instead of an M-14 stock, the answer is still no.

"...a few USGI "M1A" stocks..." Illegally exporting restricted for export parts is a criminal offense, Stateside. Won't effect you, but the seller/shipper(your buddy) can go to gaol and be handed a huge fine.
E-Bay is an evil, anti-firearm ownership, empire. Buying or selling there financially supports the people who think you shouldn't be allowed to own a firearm of any kind.

sad but true.
importing or rather, exporting out of the U.S. , of m14 stocks, regardless of what the seller calls them is illegal. the fiberglass stocks are categorized as an M14 part, regardless of how they are advertised. The only retailer i now of that did manage to get a few into canada was Fabsorts and i do not know if he still is able to get them.

If you buy from Boyds make sure it is under $100, which is their current price for an M1A stock. Go a nickle over $100 and you run the chance of it getting it scarfed up by the "homeland security" folks.

We've had Canadian import certificates for them denied because they are for m14's. So both the American and Canadian governments are restricting the import/export.

$100 Wholesale value - if they are selling retail at $100 there is no way it will be "scarfed up" due to the value.

It seems like a lottery nowadays. Some times you win, sometimes you lose. Earlier this yr I purchased a Garand stock from a US vendor at slightly more than $100. It got siezed because he did not have an export license for a part valued at more than $100.:( I subsequently got another Garand stock plus one from Boyds for less than $100 each and they both came thru.

Would this be "drop in" besides from some fitting and maybe the addition of a buttpad?

...or do I have to find the metal around the trigger group and magwell somewhere else?

Pretty well near drop-in condition. I had to do some fine rasping to insert/shoehorn my Norinco metal stock liner into place, but that was only 5 minutes and a large coffee. :D The buttplate slipped right into place.

I still warn everyone: Keep your rasp set handy. :)

And nope, yer #### will not fall off should you happen to glass bed that M14 / M1A action into the stock!

Cheers,
Barney

Well, but are these Boyd's stocks of the same slim contour that you get with the USGI stocks?
Considering the difficulty with getting one of those, I'm amazed that almost every second CGNer seems to have one...

When you say "USGI" I presume you mean USGI glass fiber and not USGI walnut. The Norinco Chu stock's grip is way too beefy for me. Are the USGI Walnuts/springfield m1a stocks the same?

Do you think the boyd's stock(laminate) is like the USGI walnuts( and is that more or less thick than the Chu) or like the USGI glass? Most hunting stocks made out of wood are considerably slimmer than the norinco chu stock.

Well, I'm using a Poly/Norinco plastic stock right now and while I don't think it's as fat as the Chu wood, it's still a little bit too... plushy for my likes.
When I'm talking about USGI contour I'm talking about this:

(Now, I realize this is an airsoft gun, but the contour should be appropriate)

My Boyd stock was an out-of-the box drop-in upgrade. Lovely oiled walnut and a slimmer design than the Norinco wood, and similar to the Poly-tech plastic. A perfect fit. You need to strip all the hardware from your factory stock and assemble it on the Boyd stock. I bought a Norinco balsa-wood stock and matching brown plastic handguard from a CGNer for its metal, and Hungry kindly supplied me with a National Match front sling swivel with the correct fasteners. Overall, the biggest job was securing the ferrule. I hate using glue, and crimping isn't strong enough so I carefully riveted mine in place and ground the rivets nearly flush and painted black. Strong and tidy.

Boyds Walnut is the way to go and then get the kit from Brownells to simulate the fun switch;

I agree, every boyd's I've seen are excellent stocks, and a bargain at 100.00
As for composite stocks, I will be releasing a "standard" type stock in the next few months that will accept all the stock metal from your existing chinese stock. These will have 2 coices for the forstock, NM Fat and standard Slim, with bedding recesses at trigger pads and receiver bearing points.
