Do they require bedding?

Who shoots them left handed? I hear they are thin and lefties sometimes don't like them as their hands touch the op rod.

Thanks, Z

mine didn't. But on mine, the cu wood was also pretty good shooter.

I can't vouch for thousands or rounds, so if you plan on using it that intensive.... bedding is the way to go.

Mine fit very tight, but bedding would improve any stock/reciever fit. And depending on how I hold the rifle, my fingers can touch the op rod on the forend even though I'm right handed.

i'm a lefty, good point as i once tore my right thumb nail off shooting my garand.OUCH!! i have since learned to hold it and my m305s' in a much safer maner, its instinctual now.:D

You know, I have never shot a m14, only m16s, but I want a killer I can take in the bush. So...does the op rod move or any of the parts move / cycle that a lefty wold be in contact with if they use a skinny USGI stock? You know for pinch, bruise and cut hazards?

if you normally like to support the rifle close to the trigger guard,it may be a problem if you are using the short [flush] 5 rd mags.i only use the 5/20 mags now and am conscious of holding just forward of this.its become second nature with my garand thankfully ,as there's no mag to remind me.

yes the op rod does move, its the finger pull [yes, my terminology sucks]that can grab you.

I am a southpaw, shoot as a southpaw, and LOVE the m1a/305 in a USGI fiberglass stock. I have thousands and thousands of rounds through my many different M1A/305s and have no injuries to report at all. My support hand typically rides the magazine/receiver type area, and I typically use 5/20 rounders unless shooting standing in which case my support hand goes under the magazine. I actually thing the ergonomics of an M1a are superior for a southpaw....:)

Good luck....

OMG! a virgin! Your in for a treat, It's a great rifle. Personally I prefer the FN, but being as it's prohib and I'm not grandfathered, the m1 series from garand up to the m-305's is the next best thing!

BTW what are you going to kill in the bush? It's a little heavy for a hunting gun, but some like it.

Just as a general purpose field gun. I'm used to humping weight. it must weigh about 5 lbs more than a m16 I take it. now that was a light gun compared to the fn, but hte fn was awesome. trained on it, never used it once on the job. Musta been around 1986 or so...?

If you hold it by the mag you should be okay. Shells normally eject to the 2 aclock as well so you should be ok there as well.

Yup, begining of the end. It is about 5 pound heavier, but this also adds stability off hand. Same long stroke feel to the recoil, a real pussy cat, the same way a lion or tiger is.
