What’s everyone’s thoughts on using a single piece offset mount on a precision bolt gun? I know these are traditionally for AR platform rifles, but do they work well on bolt guns being offset? I’ve got a Nightforce mount sitting around collecting dust and one the OIC deadline comes into effect, I’ll prob have even more.

Thanks

Whats the rifle? If you are mounting it directly to a rail on the action, you might not have enough space to get a proper eye relief, be it forwards or backwards.

Not exactly sure to be honest. I currently have a rem 700 tac in an MDT ESS with an EGW rail.

I guess I was more of less looking to see how often if ever people run offset single piece mounts on bolt guns and how well they work.

Eye relief might be an issue. Also the height is usually around 1.4" if I recall correctly. That might be too high depending on your rifle thus necessitating the addition of a cheek riser as well. Unless you mean on a bolt gun like a Renegade or Maverick in which case it would be perfect.

As others have said, eye relief will be your only problem. 1.5" mounts aren't an issue (and are in fact necessary if you have a full length top pic rail) with an ESS as you can adjust the cheek piece up.

Not that it really matters, but when I see a cantilever mount as far back as it will go with lots of rail available in front it looks amateurish. But if that's what you already have (your case) or you need it for eye relief, go for it.

I do agree with your statement. I don’t think I’m gonna go that route. Just sort of getting some feelers. I mean I do have some spare vortex pro and Leupold Mk4 rings as well. So I’m not limited to the offset mount. It’s just that it’s nice NIGHTFORCE mount and I hate seeing it collecting dust lol

Maybe I am missing something. Why would you want one on a bolt gun. Honest question as you don't see it very often.

Ive had to use it many times before to get closer eye relief, my eye has been getting worse over the years and all my scopes are moving farther back on my bolt guns.
