Hey all.

Just bought a wackload of Hornady Steel Match in 223. 75 grain BTHP.

Just occurred to me (I know......) that it is steel cased. Presumed it was a designated ammo for shooting "steel matches"f:P:

I have a PWS with an 18" barrel that I plan on using for more accuracy type shooting than a tactical style.

Would you use steel cased stuff in the chamber?

Please be gentle......:slap:

I have shot it out of my Rainier Ultra Match (Shilen). It shoots just as well as my handloads, and I have zero concerns about wear and tear or reliability.

If I was offered a free can of BH MK262 or HDY 75gr Steel Match (for competition use) I would be hard pressed to choose.

I put a box of it through my tavor. Shot just fine, gun hated it though. Did horrible in the accuracy department.

Hornady steel match ammo is my 3gun competition ammo when I go to the US.
Both the 55 and 75 shoot fairly consistent speed and group really well out of my 20" AR.
Best groups to date have been with this ammo. (1" at 300 meters) and is routinely sub MOA.

My barrel is 1:8 twist, 223 wylde chamber.

I have no problems using Hornady steel match in my su16 and in a accuracy test for a buddies Salvage bolt gun it was in second place if i remember correctly.

Everyone needs to get over the steel case hurting your gun thing. Steel cased ammo, especially the Hornady stuff won't hurt a thing. In fact, my experience with the Hornady stuff is that it functions very well and shoots as good as most of my handloads. Just too expensive ...

That's a pretty bold statement (not doubting you), as the MK262 is a hell of a round. I still have 1000 rounds of it sitting in my ammo safe.

I wouldn't be worried about using it in a bolt rifle. Actually if I could find some locally I'd love to try some in my bolt gun.

Shoots great out of my Noveskes and my Stag 3G.
No hesitation using it.
I typically reload but I was watching someone shoot really small groups and I asked him what he was shooting.
He told me he bought the steel match from the club we were at so I bought a box and it shot sub MOA as well as my handloads.
