Using magazine as a barricade press

An extended magazine makes an excellent barricade press but is there any reason not to use it as one? It's really handy but if it may cause feeding issues or damage I don't think if it is worth the tradeoff.

I have used the magazine as a monopod doing dry fire practice and I can feel added pressure on the bolt from the follower so I know it is having some effect.

If it is an issue maybe I could install a small handstop or something ahead of the magazine well to use or should I not worry about it?
 
I have used my mag as a barricade stop and it seems fine, personally I think that a dedicated stop/extended mag well is better.

I am trying to use my TRG as my PRS rifle and have found that I seem more stable without pressing something into the barricade. Maybe that will change as I progress/practice more.
 
Press against the barricade, run dummy rds through your rifle... maybe it is a problem, maybe it isn't.

I am putting a stop on my rifle so I never have to worry about upsetting the mag alignment.

And if I get a bit too vigorous against the barricade, I can't damage the mag or mag well. I can see how some stages could benefit from leaning into the rifle hard to keep it in place (only front support)

I have done it with a fair bit of pressure and have not had any feeding issues so far. I am just worried I might be damaging the magazine well or magazine catch.
 
I was just reading a thread on snipers hide about a guy designing/building a stop that would attach to the front of the dbm bottom metal. Apparently using the mag as a stop can lead to issues. Lots of dbm bottom metal now seem to protrude below the stock which seems like it would work good against a barricade.
 
I had my smith make a couple of stops that attach to the bottom metal using a longer front action screw. I'll post some photos later.
 
I'd think on certain rifles that pressing on the mag could cause an issue. Some magwells are pretty sloppy and some guns are pretty sensitive to alignment/fitment.

I'd feel better not doing it.
 
I just fired a few dozen rounds this weekend using the mag as a barricade rest with varying degrees of pressure with zero feeding issues. The barricade was a simulated rooftop incline shot in different positions and target elevation. I'll try and test different angles and pressure applied to see at what point I can induce a feeding issue next time I get out there.
 
I've only had issue with flush bottom metal. Since changing to PTG Stealth, I haven't had any issues. I often lean into barricades with all of my weight with my mag against them.

Any machinist should be able to make this, all you need is a lathe, round bar and a longer front action screw.
I had my smith make it 2.5" long, and then I cut it to length with a hacksaw and cleaned up with some files.
Wrapped in electrical tape at the moment, I will replace that with skateboard grippy tape soon.
I also have a strap-on barricade pad on the way that will mount just forward of the stop. This setup I only use on flat, solid barricades like the PRS tiebreaker.
 
Another reason I like the stop is if I have to change mags while I am against a barricade.... easy. If I am leaning on the mag, I have to break position to swap and re engage.

Small point but it will saves seconds
