Using magnum isntead of normal primers?

My local store only has magnum pistol primers for now, I load moderate loads with bullseye and titegroup. Anything to be concerned about?

not that i've seen aside from the 3bucks/1000 extra cost locally- now if it was rifle, there's a whole different pressure curve to worry about- in pistol, in my experience , unless you're igniting heavy loads with heavy bullets, it's just a matter of economy

Magnum primers burn a bit hotter for a bit longer than regular primers. They're for lighting hard to ignite powders and extreme cold weather shooting. Other than that, you'll be fine. However, if you change any one component, you'll have to work up the load again.

Buy the correct primers.

Magnum primers will ignite some powders better, but they will also increase pressure by 10% or more without a similar increase in velocity. If you just must use them (and I say don't) take the higher pressure into account when you work up your loads by sticking with starting loads.

I agree with andy....the hotter primers will increase your pressure with little or no gain in performance....best off to decrease your loads a bit or wait for the regular primers that you use..

I already have them, I normally load 4.5gr of Bullseye which is fairly light as I think Lee calls for a max of 4.9-5.0gr. Thanks for the heads up, I load some tonite and check the brass after firing.
