using magnum primers instead of large rifle

Never found it to make a significant difference in the smaler to medium capacity cases. With the larger cases and especially with some of the slower burning powders, magnum primers are usually a requirement for more uniform and reliable ignition.

Good choice for ball powder

As well a good choice for cold temperatures.

I have used LR Magnum primers in my .308Win with Ball powder with no problems.

The Magnum Primers have a hotter ignition so that helps in the cold and helps to burn all the ball powder up.

You also might get a wee little more zip in your velocites.

However don't just swap ober to the Magnum primers without first dropping your load down a few grains and working it back up.

SKBY.
