Using rice as a tumbler media

I wasn't able to find any crushed walnut at my local pet food stores, and the staff didn't know what i was talking about.

.

It's commonly sold as lizard litter or bird cage litter. Ask them to check their "KAYTEE" supplier.

"...1/10 the cost of the commercial brass/tumbling media..." That's because it doesn't have anything in the bag related to firearms or the reloading supply industry. As daft as that sounds. Brasso isn't good for brass either. Has ammonia in it. Ammonia eats brass. There's no need for any polish anyway. brass needs to be clean, not shiney.
"...compound for pets..." Small pets like gerbils and hamsters.
"...Ground corn works..." Ground corn cobs. Ground corn is flour. snicker.
If you use rice, you'll just have to do it again in half an hour. snicker.

I just tried ceramic tumbler media (1.5 lbs) in my vibe tumbler and it worked great. Add the media, add water up to the top of the media, add a 1/2 cup vinegar and a dash of dish soap and an hour later your STRAIGHT WALL casings come out clean as a whistle - inside and out. Best $18 I spent. Ceramic media is available in a Lyman box from places like Russel's

off course

I know this has probably been talked of before but I am out of regular media. Anyone tried rice before?

It seems that we are wandering in the wilderness here. Sounds like Jess uses one of the usual media, has run out of it, and has a bag of rice in his pantry. "Can I use it?" asks he. We are all answering the wrong question.

My 2cents? Just reload your filthy brass and keep shooting until you can buy media that you like, Jess. Tumbling brass makes it pretty, but it is an unnecessary sophistication
