Is anyone using their scope to estimate range on whitetails? I have heard of people using the back to brisket measurement (18") to see how far an animal is with your scope. My VX-1 in 3-9X40 has the regular duplex recticle.

think Leupold has an explanation of doing this with their scopes on their site. Never had the luxury of time to figure this out before the deer was gone. Best advice I ever got - and will pass on - was to make sure the crosshairs are ALWAYS on something brown - when I didn't follow this advice I missed. When you get cute and start holding over - your chances of a miss go way up.

Lots of online advice of where to zero and "point blank range" for modern cartridges with velocity in the 2700FPS + range - its worth following.
