Using Slugs???

I have a '79 870 Wingmaster, cylinder bore.

If i wanted to fire slugs would i need a specific type of barrel or is my smooth bore adequete?

What kind of slugs could i use? sabot or rifled?
 
Sabots are pretty damn expensive as well, just fire rifled slugs through there,if you have chokes, you can play around with those to see what produces the best accuracy
 
just regular Foster (rifled) slugs. (Winchester Super X, Remington Slugger, etc)
if you want a premium slug with better performance and accuracy, you can try Brenneke slugs.

My Mossberg 500, with a 20" cylander bore barrel, gets great accuracy with 2.3/4" Federal bluebox rifled slugs. Play around with a bunch of different brands and find one that shoots well for you.
 
To echo an earlier post,sabot slugs require a fully rifled barrel (or at least choke to impart some spin) but smoothbore barrels are intended for Forster type slugs that have their own rifling engraved on the slug

You are looking for what is commonly called rifled slugs - althought it's more the weight forward desgin that carries them accurately. The Remington buckhammer line lately has been shooting superbly out of my smoothbore of same make/description as your setup.

Sabot slugs are only for rifled barrels. And they kick like a mad mule.
 
I've bought them through Accuracy Plus in Peterborough, Ontario.
Heard it through the grapevine that Italian Sports In GVR.
Wholesale Sports in Edmonton carries them sometimes.
TSE in Calgary, is working on importing from Brenneke USA. (NRCAN bs)
