What is the civilian / commercial equivalent of the USMC Remington sniper rifle?

For interest, is there a standard optics setup that they have on this rifle?

Thanks guys.

Keep in mind that the USMC M40 series is not commercially supplied to the USMC.The Marines build thier M40 series rifle in house using thier own armours.

There are several Custom companies in the U.S. building M40, M40A1,M401A2, M40A3 clones. One such company is GA Precision.

Non of the "Big" commercial outfits build a "clone".

The USMC used an Unertl 10X scope for years.U.S. Optics now makes that same scope for public sale.It runs around $2500.00 U.S. IMHO, for that kind of money, the scope isn't that great.

The USMV currently use a S&B 4 - 16 X 50mm PM-II MilDot scope on their rifles.

I know someone who had a GA Precision M40 USMC clone with correct Unertl scope. It was around $10,000.00. This rifle was built using the same parts and the same way as the real M40.

That rifle was built with a McMillan A4 stock, 24" sniper contour Schneider barrel 1/12 twist, The floor metal is provided by the DD Ross Company. on a Remington Short Action Model 700. Unertl scope fixed ten but I think they are swithing to S&B PII scopes and TIS just got the contact for the M24 slings,

so you could build one if you wish:evil:

The M40A3 uses a 3-12 Schmidt. Don't forget that any true clone uses the correct PGW Defence M40 accessory rail :)

got a picture of this rail..

Way to go, Steve. Glad that you could join us.... We're not worthy!!

Okay, no more hijacking as we praise our resident PR expert builder.

Is it worth the dineros to build an M40 (A1 or A2 or A3) clone ? Seems to me that one would get similar downrange results tweaking your own M700 .308 and slapping on the correct Mcmillan stock... that's if you really wanted to spend that kind of money. Am I being to simplified about this ?

How about being a cheap sob like me and set up an M24 wannabe by picking up a Rem M700 Police in .308 then mounting a Leupold Mark4 M3 ? That way you get the (close enough) the HS Precision stock that might resemble the more expensive M24 SWS stock with all the wheels and gizmos.

Anyways, whatever works for you and your budget....

if you started with a 5R barrel cut to 24" remington 700 like Gunslingers rifle got the scope, sling, rings bottom metal and PGW rail it would be close...

Say, you are right with the Mike Rock 5R barrel. Didn't Navyshooter grab a 5R barrel and have it screwed on his Varmint Special?

Hey Navyshooter... didja want to parkerize that barreled action ? I know that Varmint Special... he shot with that walnut stocked M700 at CFSAC/NSCC back in 2000 or was it 1999 ?? That's when I first met him...

Does this mean your company is now taking orders from mere mortals again? :p

Indeed we aren't! Don't mean to hijack the thread again, but Steve, I got to play around with a C-14 Timberwolf at work the other day, and wow...you guys did a hell of a job on that rifle to say the least *drool*.

Hahaha I did the exact same thing, but with a Mk4 M1. I might build this into an M40...or I might just save up and get on the list for a Timberwolf (if they're still being sold to civvies).

I hate to be the naive one, but what or who is a PEQ?

This Should answer your question......:D
AN/PEQ-2

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The AN/PEQ-2 Target Pointer/ Illuminator/Aiming Light (TPIAL) is a laser sight for use on rifles fitted with a Picatinny rail. It is manufactured by Insight Technology.
The device is mil-spec and is currently in active service with the US armed forces. It is also part of the US SOPMOD kit. It has two infrared laser emitters—one narrow beam used for aiming the gun, and one wide beam used for illuminating targets, like a flashlight. The beams can only be seen through night vision goggles. Each beam can be zeroed independently, and the illuminator's radius is adjustable. The two lasers are tied into one 6-mode switch,

Oh nice!
Hey just out of curiosity, what do you normally use at the sniper match? How about you Skullboy?
Don't mean to hijack :).
