USMC Tents.

Interested in these, how do they compare to standard backpacking or Canadian tire tents? I would think better/stronger at the cost of weight but can anyone chime in with details or specs?

Any idea on the weight of these?

are these used surplus? How’s condition, or will it vary.

Back a while Diamond Brand was making some tents for them. Those are way better quality than CT. However, they need to unworn enough to have good coatings.

Canadian tire sells car camping tents, if that's what you're going to do with them, I wouldn't bother with these TBH

Weight is irrelevant in a tent when your vehicle carries it, and last thing I would EVER buy is a surplus military tent. Ask me how I know

OK, tell us how you know.

WELL DON'T LEAVE US HANGING!... What I gather listening to multiple stories about the forces, I can only imagine these tents looking like Glazed donuts on the inside.

I own two of the Eureka TCOP tents. They are bomb proof. The floor and fly have a thick rubber like coating. One would never get this level off protection with a civilian tent. The only down side is the weight. However given the choice I welcome the weight if it affords me more protection, and durability. My kit is almost all military surplus, and I would not change a thing.

X2 for the TCOP. Same construction, bomb proof and 4 season so there’s the trade off; weight vs protection. Some of these were also made by Eureka IIRC. At any rate, great value for the money. Not all surplus is the same FYI.

Yeah, same here… how you know?

I’ve owned one for a decade. They are big and heavy to pack, but are well constructed.

x2.

I own a one man (Black Diamond) , two man (Eureka) and also the 4 man ECWT (North Face) tents. All are close to 10 years old now, the two man version has 30+ uses and its still in good condition.

These tents are built to a defined standard, the only reservation I ever had was when buying a used one, and its condition. If you buy new, its zero risk.

On the two man version, some have stated condensation problems. Personally I have never experienced that and I camp in a temperate rainforest. I have other tents converted to 'hot tents', but they are recreation grade and it really shows after a season or two.

Candocad.
